Why Can’t You Sleep?

Do you find yourself awake in the middle of the night unable to sleep?
What do you do when you can’t sleep?
Read?
Drink warm milk?
Watch television?
Claudia takes advantage of the time she can’t sleep, to do things like paint her livingroom! During the day she is so tired she often worries that she will fall asleep while doing the shopping or driving her mother to her many doctors appointments.
When Claudia tries to help her daughter, Cassie, with her homework she is so fatigued that the cob webs are too thick to think! Cassie is on her own.
She was in tears the other day when we had lunch because Cassie’s grades are sliding and her mom’s bed sore is getting worse, since she’s been too exhausted to keep up with the frequent repositioning suggested by the nurse.
“What am I supposed to do?! Why can’t I sleep?” Claudia sobbed.
Well, I’ll tell you what she did that day, she took a nap because I insisted.
“Hey, Mom and I can hang and watch I Love Lucy. Time for Claudia to lie down and close her eyes!” I said.
She protested a bit, but friends don’t let friends deprive themselves of sleep if there is anything they can do about it!
And What Can You Do To Get More?
- Soak in a warm epsom salt bath for just as long as you can handle it just before climbing in the bed.
- Reduce television and other electronic stimulation.
- Seek stillness in little chunks all day everyday, or at least for a few minutes to start and close each day. Though if you can’t be still click here—> Stillness
- Reduce all stimulants from your diet. If you are a heavy user wean yourself and avoid the shock of withdrawal.
- Find a good nutritional supplement, and make sure you are taking plenty of Vitamin C. (This week let’s discuss the amazing work of Linus Pauling the Nobel Prize winning vitamin C scientist) Bs are very important too!
- Keep your bedroom very tidy and attractive.
- Nothing in the bedroom that does not promote sleep and quiet. (television, work, bright colors)
- Breathe deeply and smoothly or get coaching to help you learn how. click here—> Build Your Breath
- Be active any way any how …… NOW! Your sleep quality WILL improve!
- Nap whenever possible.
- At least rest if you can’t sleep, your life is very demanding! Who knows, maybe you’ll fall asleep.
- Focus on wealth, health, and happiness, and cozy wonderful sleep!
- A healthy nurturing sex life wouldn’t hurt either.
Just Don’t Paint the Livingroom!
Go back to bed!
All of the suggestions above may seem just too simple, but you will find that simple change will make a measurable difference in your life and your sleep debt!
