If you are NOT covering the basics in health related fitness components, it’s only a matter of time before you suffer the consequences.

Nurture your body, or neglect it and push yourself into an early grave!
Worse yet, your neglect could end up pushing you into a sick bed and your suffering could possibly go on for years and years and years!

Do you have any idea what you need to do to provide yourself with the basics for health building?

When do you think it might be a good time to find out?

Do you want to wait until you are SICK before you build your health?

If you aren’t suffering… why bother?

Bad habits die hard!

“Hey, I need my vices to get through the week!”

Are you protesting the loss of your coping comforts?

Only the good die young! I’m not hurting anyone.”

Why should you give a second thought to your health if you are enjoying yourself?

Why?

Because, when your suffering begins, you will have no choice but to suffer!

Sully was a very stubborn-proud man.  He lived a life of fast cars and fun vacations.

He lived in the most beautiful tiny village for 50 years, yet he didn’t know a soul in town accept Val, who is everyone’s hair dresser.

“Well, I’ve spent a lot of time at my home on the mainland”, was his excuse.

Sully developed a cardiac condition,

“Just like my dad.”

He actually did pretty well.  The stubborn old guy had a bum ticker, but he managed to continue his harried pace for quite a few years.

When his wife passed away, he started looking bad in a hurry.

His one friend in town gave me a call, asking if I would go by and see if I could check on him, and see if I could get him to accept my help to arrange the care and household help he needed.

Sully lived alone on a sprawling piece of property, he didn’t know his neighbors, and they couldn’t see his home from theirs.  Val was really concerned that the old guy would drop dead and nobody would know about it.

He could rot before he missed his next hair appointment.

Well, her friendship moved me, so I made an effort to connect with him and assess his situation.

Big Problem!

Sully was suffering but he wouldn’t admit it!

The guy was blue, and his feet were the size of cantelope and a sickly purple color.

When I asked him how he felt he said… “fine.”

Just bending to sit caused groaning and grunting.

“First order of business! Oxygen, and pain management.”

I could see where we needed to begin, but Sully assured me,

“Don’t worry about my oxygen level, I’m fine, and I don’t have any pain.”

“Well Sully, your friend is worried about you,” I said.  “You don’t look so good lately, and I am hoping that we can help get you back to feeling more like your old self.”

“I feel exactly the same as I did when I was 30 years old,” insisted Sully.

Well, it was obvious that Sully didn’t feel fine, but there was no convincing him.

It was a good week before the cleaning lady found Sully’s body when he passed 2 months later.

What Health Related Fitness Components Was Sully Ignoring?

1. Whimpy Breathing

  • Sully didn’t really like to strain himself, he liked fast cars and viagra, but the rest of his life involved little to no stimulation.
  • Since he moved very little, his muscles where whimpy.
  • Sully’s quality of life was a direct reflection of how poorly he used his lungs.

2. Nutritionally deficient calories

  • Sully’s diet came out of a can or a box.
  • Fresh whole and live, was non-existent in Sully’s kitchen.
  • Much of Sully’s water retention was cause by malnutrition, but his answer was a water pill.

3. Inactivity

  • Sully’s idea of a fun outing was to drive across the island for a steak dinner.
  • With 5 beautiful horses on the property, Sully had never done any riding.  He said they were just a tax write off.
  • Big picture windows framed lush beautiful property that might as well have been a painting.  For Sully, life was a spectator sport.

4. Chaos and confusion

  • Though Sully had everything he needed, he didn’t utilize any of the resources available to him.
  • Sully’s immediate environment was ultra clean and organized, but under his house was utter chaos.  He had valuable “stuff”, including his oxygen concentrator in unaccessible crates.
  • He didn’t trust banking and only paid with cash, which made paying bills and utilizing care givers more challenging than it needed to be.

5. Water sunshine and laughter

  • Sully didn’t drink water, he preferred soda.
  • He never went outside much, after all the Corvette was parked in the adjoining garage, so not much sunshine.
  • Though Sully didn’t want my help, the one thing he seemed to appreciate was stimulating conversation and a few good belly laughs.

I could tell that Sully was sad, lonely, and hurting.

I couldn’t help him because he wasn’t in a space that he could receive it.

Don’t let this happen to YOU or someone YOU love.

The secret is to take steps daily that will nurture you (or your patient) and help you (or them) feel better!

It Is Never Too Late To Feel Better!

You need the basics EVERYDAY!

Did you hear that?

You need the basics…  EVERYDAY!

What Are The Basics?

  • Relax, practice relaxing daily

Thinking it isn’t necessary to practice something so simple as relaxing?  Think again, you are bombarded with stimulation all day.

Pain and emotional trauma or stress make you tense.  There’s no getting around it!

Release the tension or it will squeeze the life out of you.

Fatigue will make you tense as well.  You need proper rest to stay well.

  • Breathe deeply 30–40 times a day.

The quality of your life depends on using your lungs properly.

If you are challenged or unsure of yourself, get professional help to improve your breathing.

Proper breathing will truly get you feeling better.

You’ll find a link in the side bar to better breathing information.

  • Move your body daily!

Be active in a way that adds joy to your life or suffer through activity until you crave it.

Move it or Lose it!

  • Sip Water all day.

You need readily available water for many processes that MUST occur in your body everyday.

Give yourself a break and supply all the water your hard working body needs.

Don’t dissolve anything into your water unless it is a squeeze of fresh lemon.  It just will not hydrate you as well if anything is dissolved in it.

Herbal tea may be comforting and helpful, but make sure you hydrate by sipping pure water.

  • Eat whole foods.

No matter what you eat, make sure you get some good whole natural foods in your menu.

Organic and fresh is best!

Don’t knock it ‘til you try it.  Whole foods will actually nourish you.  Empty calories make it harder to walk away from the table without over eating.

  • Get at least 15 minutes of direct bright sunshine per day if possible, and test your Vitamin D levels to make sure you have enough without over dosing.

Sunshine supplies you with vitamin D.

Vitamin D is a natural broad spectrum antibiotic.

Natural light is a mood elevator as well.  Don’t resort to anti-depressants until you make sure to get enough natural light daily.

The skin cancer scare has chased you out of the sun, but you need to be aware that insufficient natural light is harmful.

  • Laughter and light hearted thoughts are life saving.

You heal yourself or hurt yourself with each thought that you think.

Sully couldn’t get out of his own way and get the help that he needed, and died sad and lonely.

It would break my heart to know that you feel like there is no hope for you to feel better.

Start by asking yourself the right questions and you will come up with the right answers.

Improve your self talk and you will feel more like doing the little things everyday that will make the difference in your life.
